This appraisal reflection tool is for team leader/ head teacher role who is employed . The Key Performance Indicators, Key Tasks and Responsibilities are linked to Our Values, Our Codes, and Our Standards for teachers with a current practicing certificate, and Ministry of Education's requirements for Curriculum and Health and Safety. These are taken from the corresponding job and role description for an experienced teacher. The matching job description can be purchased on our shop.

The appraisal reflection tool includes descriptors to ensure shared understanding between employer and employee pertaining to the key performance indicators. These descriptors focus on specific teaching practices and link to quality frameworks from ERO and Teaching Council Aotearoa. Cultural competencies are embedded in this reflection tool that support Tātaiako, Tapasā, Standards and Criteria.

This appraisal tool provides the employee the opportunity to reflect on the key responsibilities, key tasks and key performance indicators. It also asks the employee to reflect on how well they are demonstrating the attributes in their job description. This appraisal reflection tool is consistent with the advice from Ministry Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) in growing performance of employees. MBIE advises that a growth cycle to improve performance focuses on what the employee does and how they do their job, and sets goals to focus on continued growth.

This appraisal reflection tool comes with a General Reflection Form for appraisees to complete after they have engaged in a learning opportunity.They will be able to complete these in handwriting or in a document on a computer. This reflection form can be named or numbered and attributed to the appropriate key performance indicator in the appraisal reflection tool.
